Adobe InDesign Integration for Designers

Once the CDM add-in has been setup in Adobe InDesign, a process of tagging and reviewing will occur, facilitated by functionality that allows updates to be sent and received between CDM and Adobe InDesign.

Set Up CDM Add-in in Adobe InDesign

  1. Click Window > Utilities > Scripts to open the InDesign Scripts window.
  2. In the Scripts window, right-click on the User folder, then click Reveal in Explorer.

  3. Add the CDM and Startup Scripts folders. These are necessary for the CDM add-in to work automatically at the startup of the Adobe InDesign application. AID looks at the Startup Scripts folder for scripts that need to be activated with every start of the program. CDM is the folder that manages all the add-in functionalities.

  4. Restart Adobe InDesign.
  5. You can now get the Certent CDM option in the right-click menu of any content block.

Add InDesign Report Content to CDM Tagging Assignment

  1. Create your InDesign project with all the styles needed or open your previously created project.
  2. Select one story from the report, right-click on it, then choose CDM > Add Assignment.
  3. If the CDM Assignment is already created, the story will be automatically added as assignment. When the first CDM Assignment is created, you will be prompted to insert the path of the Project Folder created within the CDM application (this path may be copied from the Project Configuration screen in CDM).
  4. Create assignments for all the report content stories that need to be tagged in CDM.

Accept the CDM Changes

Once all tags have been added to the corresponding assignments, you can accept the changes to finalize the report and file it. To do this, from the Assignments panel, right-click the CDM Tagging assignment, then click Accept CDM Package (to view the Assignments panel, go to Window > Editorial > Assignments).

Accept CDM Package

Details of the XBRL tags will then be added to the stories and they will appear in the Structure panel within a tag named CDMTag having also a CDMTagMarker attribute (to view the Structure panel, go to View > Structure > Show Structure).

Export the Report to Inline XBRL

After all the information is added to the report and all the tagging finishes in the CDM application, the designer needs to add the final CDM package containing all the tags in Adobe InDesign, do any final content changes, and export the Adobe InDesign project to inline XBRL.

You can do this from Files > Export inline XBRL.

The export includes all the assignments, the InDesign project file, the PDF version of the report, and the performance notes.
