Error: Unsupported Font Detected
Error Messages
CDM 20.3.1 and later
Generating a project or report with High Definition (HD) to EDGAR HTML or iXBRL may give an error if any of the objects contain unsupported fonts. EDGAR specifically disallows the embedding of fonts, so in order to ensure that your report is viewed as intended, only fonts that are generally available by default across platforms should be used (see list below). Other fonts must be changed to one of the supported fonts listed before generating, in order to give the best output. Other jurisdictions do allow embedding of fonts, which can be done through CDM as appropriate.
UnsupportedFontDetectedError
This font - ... is not compatible for High Definition conversion. Please replace this font with one of the common fonts listed in the What's New Guide for 20.3.1
When using High Definition EDGAR HTML or iXBRL, this appears as a Report Generation Error:
When generating Inline XBRL, the error appears in Validation Messages:
CDM 19.11.1 to 20.2.1
In earlier versions, the message may show as:
UnsupportedFontDetectedWarning
The font ... is unsupported.
Solution
Locate and change the unsupported fonts in the Word or Excel objects. Some ways to do this:
- Check the cover page, which may have unusual fonts on the symbols
- Use the generated Word document, and use Find, and set the Formatting setting to look for the specific font.
- Inspect the source code for HTML or iXBRL format, and search for the font name.
