Adobe InDesign Integration for CDM Users

Within the CDM application, report administrators will create and configure a project linked to the report that will be integrated with Adobe InDesign. A process of assignment, XBRL tagging and report reviewing will occur, facilitated by functionality that allows updates to be sent and received between CDM and Adobe InDesign.

Create a Project for the Adobe InDesign Integration

Once a new report has been created in CDM that will be integrated with Adobe InDesign, you’ll create a new XBRL project. A project acts as a container for the report and its linked data sources, the report taxonomy, and the report generation settings, and allows XBRL tagging to be performed.

To create a XBRL project:

  1. In CDM, do either of the following to open the XBRL Projects tab in the work area:
    • Click the File tab, then navigate to Administration > XBRL > XBRL Projects.
    • Click the Home tab, then in the Navigation Pane, click Administration and double-click XBRL Projects under XBRL.
  2. Click Home > Add > Project.

    Add Project

  3. In the Project Information screen of the Add Project wizard, select the CDM report that will be linked to Adobe InDesign and enter the name, description, and document title.
  4. Select the ESMA jurisdiction type.
  5. In the Generation Settings section, select Enable Adobe InDesign Tagging Project. In the Project Path field, define a location that is accessible by the CDM application and the Adobe InDesign user. The Project folder connects the CDM application to the Adobe InDesign application and needs to be an existing network path folder.

Tip: It’s recommended that you copy the project path entered here since it will be needed later, during the assignment process.

    Project Generation Settings

  6. Click Next to go to the Project Configuration screen.
  7. The Company URL, Short Name, and Reporting Period are used for the technical construction of the extension taxonomy and output package.
  8. Click Finish. CDM will add the report, taxonomy, and generation settings to the project. This process may take a few minutes.

Edit the Adobe InDesign Tagging Project

Once an AID project has been created, the following fields can be edited: Name, Description, Document Title, Company URL, Short Name and Reporting Period.

Note: Once a project has been created, you will not be able to change the Adobe InDesign project path.

Update Assignment Within the Adobe InDesign Project

When opening the project in CDM, the Update Assignment option will display a bell to indicate that changes were made in AID.

To receive the changes made in the AID application, select Update Assignment.

Update Assignment Within the Adobe InDesign Project

If other changes occur in AID while the project is being worked on in CDM, the button will remain in a normal, inactive state (no bell), but the CDM user can select the Update Assignment button at any time to get new assignment updates.

The progress of the Update operation can be viewed in the LRP. If there are any warnings, they will appear in a pop-up window when the you select the Open button (folder icon).

Running the assignment will:

  1. Insert report objects for all the new Assignment stories sent from Adobe InDesign.
  2. Update the report objects where the Assignment story has been updated in InDesign.
  3. Keep the report objects that no longer have a corresponding connection to a story from the CDM Tagging assignment.

Users can add other report objects to this project as well as move and rename any object, including those with a corresponding connection to the CDM Tagging assignment.

In order for the updated assignment to be available in CDM, the changes made in Adobe InDesign need to be saved first. If changes are not saved, CDM will say that there is nothing to update - there is not a dynamic link between the two applications.

Word Objects

Word objects are created from an InDesign story that contains plain text content. The content of the Word objects will be adjusted accordingly if there is a template added in CDM Application Resources, otherwise, Word’s default template will be used.

Excel Objects

Excel objects are created from an InDesign story that contains table content. The content of the excel objects will be adjusted accordingly if there is a template added in CDM Application Resources, otherwise, Excel’s default template will be used.

Each table will be written in a sheet called Display{Index} having assigned a print area to it.

Exclude Report Object Assignments

CDM Report Object assignments can be set to not printable in order to be excluded when generating the report to Microsoft Word/PDF or to HD HTML.

The Adobe InDesign integration features will not be affected, and users will still be able to update and return not printable CDM Report Object assignments and infuse the XBRL tags defined in not printable CDM Report Object assignments.

Tag the Adobe InDesign Project

Prior to tagging, you’ll need to update the assignment to receive the necessary objects or updates that were added to the CDM Tagging Assignment by the designer. When you click Update Assignment, the progress will be displayed in the LRP.

Prior to the assignment update in CDM, the designer must add the necessary stories to the CDM Tagging assignment within the AID application.

Once the Assignments are updated within the CDM Project, you can add all the tags to the corresponding objects. Report objects must be saved before returning the assignment.

Return the Adobe InDesign Project Assignment

Once all tags have been added to the report objects, select Return Assignment to send the changes back to InDesign.

View the Inline XBRL Report

From Home tab when the project is open, you have the option to view the inline XBRL report prior to generation.

The Project folder must have the PDF version of the Adobe InDesign report created inside a PDF folder. If the folder is not found, an error message will end the conversion process.

To add the PDF report inside the project folder, the designer must use the Export Inline XBRL option available within AID under the File menu.
