Reuse an Existing Footnote

A footnote is a supporting piece of XBRL information that is tied to a fact. If a footnote was already created from content in Excel and Word objects, you can use CDM XBRL to reuse an existing footnote.

To reuse an existing footnote:

  1. Open the project that you want to work with.
  2. In the Data Tools area on the ribbon, click Pivot Grid.
  3. Above the Tag Inspector tab, click Pivot Grid.

Tip: To simplify your tagging work, you can pivot or filter the Pivot Grid to approximate the appearance of the data in the Excel object. For example, you can change the Pivot Grid to move columns to rows, and rows to columns. If the Pivot Grid contains extra rows or columns that are not visible in your Excel object, you can filter them so that they are no longer visible in the Pivot Grid.

  4. In the Pivot Grid, find the intersection where you want to add an existing footnote. You can use Search to find the appropriate pivot view. Click From Existing. In the Select a Footnote window, select the appropriate footnote.

Tip: To apply an existing footnote to more than one fact at the same time, you can select a range of intersections in the Pivot Grid. However, you cannot select a non-contiguous set of intersections. CDM XBRL attaches the previously created footnote to the selected fact or facts.

  5. Click the Footnotes tab. The Footnotes tab contains details of your new footnote and any other footnotes in the Pivot Grid. When you click the number in the intersection, you can navigate to the footnote. When you click the More link in the footnote, you can see information about the footnote and you can navigate to the source intersection in the Pivot Grid. The footnotes that are shown in the panel are the footnotes that are related to all facts currently displayed in the Pivot Grid.
