Generate an Extension Taxonomy
You can generate an extension taxonomy in the CDM Extension Taxonomy Editor.
Check the extension taxonomy for errors.
- Open the extension taxonomy.
- Click Generate on the ribbon. A message is displayed asking if you want to save the extended taxonomy.
- Choose one:
- Yes to save the extended taxonomy and proceed with generation.
- No to proceed with generation without saving the extended taxonomy.
- If the taxonomy has unrecoverable errors, a notification message is displayed and the generation process is stopped. Click OK and
go to the Errors tab to review the errors. You cannot generate the taxonomy until all unrecoverable errors are fixed. If there are nonfatal errors in the taxonomy, a message indicates that errors exist. You can continue to generate a taxonomy with nonfatal errors:
- Click Yes to continue to generate with errors. The Preview Taxonomy window opens and you can continue through these steps.
- Click No to cancel the generation.
- Review the taxonomy in the Preview Taxonomy window by clicking the Elements, Presentation, Calculation, and Definition tabs.
Note: The information that is on these tabs is read-only and cannot be changed.
- Click Generate. The Generate Taxonomy window opens. Select one of the following options:
- Generate to XBRL - Generates the extension taxonomy to CDM XBRL. If the taxonomy was previously generated to or was imported with the Make Editable option, its name and description are displayed in the XBRL Taxonomy Name and Description fields and cannot be changed. If the taxonomy was created in the Extension Taxonomy Editor and was not generated to XBRL, you can enter a new name and description.
- Generate to files - Generates the extension taxonomy to a directory on the local system. In the Path field, enter the path to the folder to which you want to generate or click the ellipsis icon to browse to a location. Select the Separate Labels by Language checkbox if more than one language was used to label elements and you want the output in separate documents according to the languages that were used.
- Click OK. If the base taxonomy used is a US-GAAP taxonomy, a confirmation window opens asking if you want to run EFM (EDGAR Filing Manual) validation. Select one of the following options:
- Click Yes to generate with EFM validation. If validation fails, a window displays a list of all of the errors. You can right-click in the list and select Export to Excel to open the list in a spreadsheet that can be saved and used to resolve the errors.
- Click No to generate without EFM validation.
After the taxonomy is generated and saved, an alert notifies you that the task is complete.
