The Element Properties Tab

The Element Properties tab in the Extension Taxonomies pane of the CDM Extension Taxonomy Editor displays the properties of an element that is selected and highlighted in the Primary Items pane or Dimensions pane.

Options

  • Name
    The name of the element that defines the concept within the taxonomy and instance document. For US GAAP extensions, the name must be unique, and it must follow the Label Camel Case Concatenation (LC3) rules for the SEC.
  • ID
    The identifier for the element. It is used to refer to the element in other documents (for example, linkbases). The ID is in the form {Prefix}_{Name}, where {Prefix} is the taxonomy prefix, and {Name} is the element name. The ID field is read-only.
  • Balance
    Used to assign the balance attribute of an element for calculation relationships.

  • Period Type
    Defines the period type of the element, either measured at an instant in time (for example, account balance) or measured over a duration of time (for example, total deposits).

  • Type
    The type of data that can be tagged to the element.

    The following table lists the most commonly used types that are derived from the standard (xbrli) taxonomy.

    Used for expressing a day in the Gregorian calendar format DD.

    Used for expressing the date in the format YYYY-MM-DD.

  • Abstract
    When this checkbox is selected, the element cannot be used to tag data. The labels of abstract elements are italicized in the Primary Items pane and the Dimensions pane. An abstract element cannot be used to tag data in an instance document.

The Labels Subtab

The Labels subtab is used to manage the labels that are present on the selected element. Elements can have multiple labels, and for each label, the language and type of label must be identified.

  • Label Text
    The human-readable text to be displayed for the label.
  • Label Type
    Indicates the circumstances in which an element is used, and how it displays in the presentation. The following table lists some frequent used icons, as examples.

    Used for labels that present values with reversed sign.

    Used for labels that presenting values that are associated with the end of a period, with a reversed sign.

    Negated Period Start Icon

    Used for labels that present values that are associated with the start of a period, with a reversed sign.

    Negated Terse Icon

    Terse label for presenting values with reversed sign.

    Negated Total Icon

    Used for labels that present values with reversed sign, on elements that have a total value.

    Used for reversing a value's weighting in the presentation linkbase.

    Negative Verbose Icon

    Period End Icon

    Used for labels that present values associated with the end of a rollforward.

    Period Start Icon

    Used for labels that present values that are associated with the beginning of a rollforward.

    Positive Icon

    Positive

    Used to indicate whether the value presented is positive (negative, zero). For example, the standard and standard positive labels might be "profit after tax"; the standard negative labels might be "loss after tax"; the terse label and terse positive labels might both be "profit"; and the negative terse label might be "loss".

    Presentation Guidance Icon

    Used to explain the rules that regard presentation of a concept that is related to other concepts.

    Terse Icon

    Used for short labels.

    Total Icon

    Total

    Used for labels on elements that have a total value.

    Verbose Icon

    Verbose

    Used for extended labels that give an exact description.

    Zero Icon

    Zero

    Used for a concept when the value of the concept is negative.

    Zero Terse Icon

    Zero Terse

    Terse label that is used for a concept when the value of the concept is negative.

    Zero Verbose Icon

    Zero Verbose

    Verbose label that is used for a concept when the value of the concept is negative.

  • Label Icon
    If a base label is non-discoverable, the Non-Discoverable icon Non-Discoverable Icon displays with the label type. The label displays in supplemental linkbases only.
  • Language
    The language of the label.
  • Bind To Cell
    Used to create a permanent association between the label text and the text in a report object. When the text in the object changes, the label text also changes. If a label is bound, the Checkmark icon Checkmark Icon is displayed in the column.
  • Prohibited
    Used to prohibit a base element label so that it is not available in the extended taxonomy. If a label is prohibited, the Prohibited icon Prohibited Icon is displayed in the column.

You can use the following icons in the icon panel to manage labels on the Label subtab.

The References Subtab

The References subtab is read-only and displays references to authoritative definitions of the concept that is represented by the element. These definitions can be an accounting policy, rule, or regulation.
