Project Aspects

When you create an XBRL project, CDM automatically enables a set of aspects that can be assigned to XBRL tags. You can add or modify project aspects from the Project Configuration group of the Home tab.

Project Configuration section of the project Home ribbon

Units

When a new project is created, CDM automatically enables a set of units that act as defaults when tagging.

Project Configuration for Units

You can add new units and modify the predefined units. You cannot delete units that are used in tagging.

When creating or modifying a unit, you can choose from the list of units defined in the Unit Registry 1.0.  You can also define additional custom units from Administration > XBRL > Units.

You can create units with identical definitions and different names for use in taxonomy tagging, for example, Euro (Group Currency) and Euro (Yachting Australia Currency - converted).

In order to change a default unit, you will need to edit the existing default unit rather than add a new unit to the list. For example, if the company is reporting USD instead of Euro, the Euro unit will need to be edited and changed to USD, so that monetary tags can be applied in USD by default.

Time Periods

When a new project is created, CDM automatically enables five time periods for the current year and the previous four years based on the Reporting Period end date.

Project Configuration for Time Periods

You can add new time periods and modify existing time periods. You cannot delete time periods that are used in tagging.

When adding a new period, you will be asked to provide the start and end date. These start and end dates can be used when tagging facts that pertain to a specific date (instant concept facts). You do not need to create additional instant time periods.

Time periods can be modified at any time. CDM will update tags using the modified time period accordingly.

You can create multiple time periods for the same dates with different names. For example, you could create two 2024 time periods, one called Year 2024 and the other called Current Year.

  • Current Year
Starts on 1st of January and ends on 31st of December 2024.
  • Year 2024
Starts on 1st of January and ends on 31st of December 2024.

When the new year begins, you can modify the Current Year dates to 2025 while the Year 2024 can remain unchanged.

Number Scaling

CDM automatically enables a set of number scaling options when a new project is created.

Project Configuration for Number Scaling

You can add or modify number scaling options, but you cannot delete number scaling aspects that are used in tagging.

When you need to change a number scaling default, you need to edit the existing default scale rather than add a new scale to the list. For example, if a company is reporting in Thousands instead of Millions, you need to change the Millions scale to Thousands, so that monetary tags will be applied in Thousands by default.
