Replace a Taxonomy in a Project

You can use CDM XBRL to replace the taxonomy that is associated with a project with a mapped taxonomy.

You can use the Replace Taxonomy feature to replace a taxonomy with another taxonomy, if the target (replacement) taxonomy is mapped to the source (current) taxonomy. For example, if you use a report for a quarterly filing, you can later use the same report for an annual filing. For the quarterly filing, you can use one taxonomy, then replace that taxonomy with an annual taxonomy without needing to retag the report.

The general process for replacing a taxonomy with a new taxonomy consists of these main steps:

  1. Use the Taxonomy Mapping feature to map elements between the current taxonomy and the new taxonomy.
  2. Use the Replace Taxonomy feature to replace the current taxonomy with the new taxonomy.
  3. Load the report in CDM XBRL and load the new taxonomy.
  4. Use the Refresh > Pivot command to update the tags with the mapped elements.

Taxonomy replacement updates the existing tags of a project with mapped elements in the target taxonomy. If a tagged element of a tag is not mapped or set to Ignore, the tag is removed. CDM XBRL alerts you if a tag is to be removed. If you confirm the deletion, the tag is removed from the project. Tags that are associated with elements that are split or merged are deleted.

Important: It is possible that a tag replacement might fail because of dimensional incompatibilities between the two element's dimensional structures. This failure would result in the removal of that tag.

To replace a taxonomy in a project:

  1. Click the Home tab, then in the Navigation Pane, click Administration.
  2. Under XBRL, double-click XBRL Projects.
  3. In the project list in the work area, right-click on the project that is associated with the taxonomy to be replaced and select Replace Taxonomy.
  4. In the Replace Taxonomy window, select a mapped taxonomy, then click OK. If there is no taxonomy that is mapped to the source taxonomy, the list is empty.
  5. If there are any unmapped elements or invalid mappings in the mapping, the Results of Replacing the Taxonomy window opens. Review the changes to be applied.
  6. When you are satisfied with the changes, click OK.
