Taxonomy Mapping

A taxonomy is a description of a multidimensional data store expressed in XML. You can use CDM XBRL to map elements between two XBRL taxonomies.

Taxonomy mapping provides a way to establish a correspondence between elements in a source taxonomy and elements in a target taxonomy. This mapping can be used when you replace a source taxonomy within a project with target taxonomy by using the taxonomy replacement feature.

Mappings act as instructions to CDM XBRL on how to deal with tags when you replace a taxonomy.

Important: Taxonomy mapping is best used between similar taxonomies. You can map between taxonomies that are not similar; however, mapping unsimilar taxonomies might not produce expected results.
