Manage Extension Taxonomies
Using the Manage Taxonomies window in the CDM Extension Taxonomy Editor, you can create, copy, migrate, and delete extension taxonomies as you want.
Create an Extension Taxonomy
You can create and load an extension taxonomy in the CDM Extension Taxonomy Editor.
- Click the Home tab, then in the Navigation Pane, click Extension Taxonomies.
- Click Home > Manage Taxonomies. The Manage Taxonomies window opens.
- Click New. The New Taxonomy Wizard opens at the Taxonomy Prefix step.
- Enter the prefix of your taxonomy in the Prefix field. Click Next. The Taxonomy Namespace step opens.
- Enter the URI of your company in the Company URL field.
- Select the period from the period calendar. Typically, select the end of the reporting period. Click Next. The Taxonomy Submission Type step opens.
- Select a submission type for the taxonomy:
- New Taxonomy.
- Extension Taxonomy. If you make this selection, select an extension taxonomy from the Submission Type list that is available.
- Click Next. The Schema Imports step opens.
- Perform one or more of the following tasks:
- To exclude schema imports that are listed in the Schema Imports Used section from being used, click Remove All to remove all of the imports, or select one import and click Remove. The imports are listed in the Schema Imports Available section and are not used.
- To select schema imports for use, click Add All to use all available imports, or select one import in the Schema Imports Available section and click Add. The imports that you select are listed in the Schema Imports Used section.
- To add an external schema as an available import, enter the schema location in the Schema URI field in the Add External Schema section, use the list to designate the schema as Direct (required for taxonomy generation) or Supplemental (used as a reference, is non-discoverable, and not used for taxonomy generation), and click Add. The schema is added to the Schema Imports Used section.
- Click Next. The Linkbase References step opens.
- Perform one or more of the following tasks:
- To exclude linkbase references that are listed in the Linkbase References Used section from being used, click Remove All to remove all of the linkbase references, or select one linkbase reference and click Remove. The linkbase references are listed in the Linkbase References Available section and are not used.
- To select linkbase references for use, click Add All to use all available linkbase references, or select one linkbase reference in the Linkbase References Available section and click Add. The linkbase references that you select are listed in the Linkbase References Used section.
Note: Using the Add All button might cause an error to occur. It is recommended if this happens to add about 5 to 10 linkbases, finish the wizard, come back to the wizard, add the next batch of 5 to 10 linkbases, and so on.
- To add an external linkbase as an available import, enter the linkbase location in the Location URI field in the Add External Linkbase section, use the list to designate the linkbase as direct (required for taxonomy generation) or supplemental (used as a reference, is non-discoverable, and not used for taxonomy generation), and click Add. The linkbase is added to the Linkbase References Used section.
- Click Next. The Relationship Groups step opens.
- To create a relationship group for the taxonomy, click the plus icon, enter a description in the Description field, and press Enter. Values are generated automatically and displayed in the Sequence, Type, and Preview columns. Select one or more of the following in the Purpose column to perform additional SEC validation checking: Balance Sheet
, Income Statement
, and None/Not Assigned
.
- Click Finish. The taxonomy is created.
Copy an Extension Taxonomy
- In the Manage Taxonomies window, select a taxonomy and click Copy.
- The Copy Taxonomy wizard opens at the Taxonomy Namespace step. The company URL and taxonomy namespace are set as defaults.
- Use the Period list to select a period for the taxonomy.
- Click Finish. The taxonomy is copied.
Migrate an Extension Taxonomy
You can migrate an extension taxonomy to a newer base extension of the same family.
- In the Manage Taxonomies window, select a taxonomy and click Migrate.
- The Migrate Taxonomy wizard opens at the Taxonomy Namespace step. The company URL and taxonomy namespace are set as defaults.
Note: Before you can migrate a taxonomy, a suitable taxonomy template must exist. You must define a taxonomy template that is in the same family and a is later version than the taxonomy template used by the taxonomy you are migrating. Alternatively, a suitable taxonomy template might require upgrading before it can be used. Click the Templates button on the Select Taxonomy window to define a taxonomy template in the same family and with a later version.
- Use the Period list to select a period for the taxonomy.
- Click Next. The Taxonomy Submission Type step opens.
- Select a submission type from the Submission Type list. The options are base extensions of the same family, with a later version.
- Click Finish. The taxonomy is migrated.
US GAAP Migration
Users can migrate their current US GAAP taxonomies to the next year taxonomy.
Requirements:
- CDM 10.2.4 Interim Fix 3 (10.2.4.0.3.456.477) or later.
- Live internet connection or the updated cache manager files extracted using the CDM XBRL Cache Utility.
- Refer to document Construct an XBRL Cache for systems without internet access to use the utility.
- US GAAP taxonomy that needs to be migrated.
- The extension taxonomy is set to use the US GAAP submission type.
- The CDM database has a full backup.
- A text editor.
- The person doing the migration has Administrator permissions for CDM.
Delete an Extension Taxonomy
You can delete an extension taxonomy if it is no longer needed.
Deleting a taxonomy removes that taxonomy from the Extension Taxonomy Editor.
Important: If you delete an extension taxonomy, you cannot undo your action. Proceed with caution.
- In the Manage Taxonomies window, select the taxonomy that you want to delete and click Delete.
- In the confirmation window, click Yes. The taxonomy is deleted and the list refreshes to reflect the change.
